MIDI Patchbay — features
Routing
- Any input to any output — build as many input-to-output routes (“patches”) as you like.
- Fan-out — send a single input to several outputs at once to layer and stack modules.
- Merge — route every input into one output.
- Enable, mute and solo — audition and silence individual routes while you work.
- Duplicate and reorder — copy a route, or drag it to a new position in the list.
- Custom names and colour tags — label routes so a large setup stays readable.
Filtering and transformation
- Channel filtering — allow all MIDI channels or only the ones you pick, from 1 to 16.
- Channel remapping — force every message on a route to a single output channel.
- Note filtering — pass everything, block everything, or restrict a route to a note range.
- Transpose — shift a route by up to 48 semitones in either direction.
- Velocity shaping — pass velocity through, force a fixed value, or scale it with gain, floor and ceiling.
- Velocity curves — choose linear, soft or hard, or draw your own curve on a live graph.
- Aftertouch shaping — pass, block, fix or scale channel pressure and polyphonic aftertouch, with its own curve.
- CC mapping — remap a Control Change to another CC number, invert it, and rescale its output range.
- Message filtering — pass or block Control Change, Program Change, Pitch Bend and Aftertouch per route.
- Clock filtering — decide per route whether MIDI clock and realtime messages pass through.
Built for playing live
- Patch groups — organise routes into named, colour-coded setups and switch between them instantly.
- Number-key switching — change group with keys 1 to 9 and 0, so a whole rig reconfigures in one keystroke.
- Program Change on group select — recall the right sound on each synth automatically when a group goes live, with optional Bank Select.
- Remote group switching — change groups from an incoming Program Change sent by another device.
- Remote actions — trigger panic, next group or previous group from a note or CC, for example from a foot controller.
- Master transpose — shift every route at once for a quick key change.
- Master clock — generate MIDI clock and transport to chosen outputs, with a BPM field and tap tempo.
- Panic — send All Notes Off and All Sound Off to every output.
- Live activity indicators — see at a glance which routes are passing MIDI.
- Saved setups — store the entire patchbay and switch between configurations, for example one per gig.
Setting it up quickly
- Templates — build a Layer, a Keyboard Split or a Merge in a single click.
- MIDI Learn — play your controller to set the input device, a note range or a CC source, with no numbers to guess.
- Device aliases — give cryptic port names friendly labels that appear throughout the app.
- Send test note — fire a note at any output to confirm a route works.
- MIDI Monitor — watch a live, decoded log of everything being routed, with filters by message type and channel.
Why you might prefer it
- Free — no cost, no licence, no trial period.
- No installation and no account — open a page and start routing.
- Private by design — everything runs on your own machine and your MIDI never leaves the browser.
- Works offline — after the first visit it runs with no connection at all.
- Installable — add it to your home screen or desktop and run it full-screen like a native app.
- Saves automatically — your setup is kept in the browser without you thinking about it.
- Share, export and import — send a whole configuration as a link, or move it between machines as a file.
- Dark and light mode — follows your system by default and remembers your choice.
- Keyboard driven — shortcuts for switching groups, selecting routes, muting, the monitor and help.
- Fully documented — a complete manual covers every feature.
Requirements: a browser with the Web MIDI API — Chrome, Edge, Opera or another Chromium browser. Safari and Firefox can open the interface but cannot route MIDI. Full details are in the MIDI Patchbay user manual.
